Old maps are one of those fascinating things that tell about history and how people view the world. It is one of those few objects that can take you back in time and allow you to see the perspective of people coming from different races.

Maps from Asia are different from Europe and Often time you can see the cultural differences and outlook in the names they give to places and the beautiful drawings and signs they put on the map. This often determines what time the map was made.
If you're interested in Collecting Maps, there are a few things you need to consider when purchasing or taking care of one.

 
  1. Rareness and Economics. Like any old objects, maps prices (and availability) often lie with the rules of supply and demand. If you have the only map that Columbus used to travel the world, you can sell it for a pretty hefty price, or if you want to buy one, it is priced according to its rarity.
     
  2. Age Just like any antique object, Its age matters. Simple explanation-the older a map is, the more valuable it is.
     
  3. Condition. Like any other collectible object, its condition matters. Maps that are in perfect condition can easily have a market price 5 times (or higher) than the same map that’s only in fair condition. There are many factors concerning a map’s condition but basically it is maintaining that piece of history and clean and clear of any smudges and crumples.

  5. Everything Unusual Anything unusual about a map is fascinating for some people. Inaccuries and peculiarities are highly in demand. Maybe the best and most common example is a map that shows California as an island.
