Travel Maps and Guides

As a fairly travelled person, I have seen a lot of rugs, travel maps and guides in all the countries that I have gone to. Nowadays, most travel maps and guides are very easy to understand and have been formatted to allow any person to find their way around. Travel maps and guides are extremely essential during traveling, most of the time when people travel they only have limited time and without a proper map or guide, you can get lost and lose a lot of time for sightseeing or worse, getting to your next destination. It is also important to note that you must be able to determine if you have sufficient navigational tools in order to go around effortlessly.
With this in mind, there are four simple criteria to keep in mind in order to allow anyone to spot a good guide or map at first glance.
Follow these 4 criteria and you will be able to find or make a very good map:

1. User-friendly
Make sure that your travel map or guide is user-friendly. Is it easy to bring? Is it in English? Does it have good captions and landmarks? Does it tell you what to do if you get lost? These are the essential things to check in a map

2. Descriptive and clear
Is the directions or text of the map clear to see? Do they use pictures and captions to make sure you’re in the right place? Do they give street signs and landmarks to allow you to check if you get lost or not? Check for these things when picking a map.

3. Tourist Spots Essential Info
Does your map give you an idea on places to go? Travel Maps should have essential information about the history (and things to see) in the locations tourist spots.

4. Travelling options
Your Map should be able to tell you how to get to different locations, it should have bus numbers to take, street signs and even distance to allow you to pick the transportation of your choice. Why take a cab when you can take a subway?

5. Travel Insurance
When traveling to European countries such as Germany, it is also a very good idea to make sure that you carry travel insurance, which in Germany for instance its called Reiseruecktrittsversicherung. Whether or not you are a fan of travel insurance, it certainly is a subject that you should consider before embarking on any trip abroad.

Now that you know these 4 criteria when choosing a map, all you have to do is to check and make sure that the map you are using doesn’t have any other errors or problems. By making sure that you have the correct map you will have a smooth and safe trip. Travel maps can also be of great assistance when skiing in the winter to prevent you from getting lost in the mountains. So when you are strapping on your snowboard boots you might also want to remember to tuck that travel map in your pocket just in case conditions turn bad.
