Tourist maps of Munich

In tourism research tracking the mobility of tourists is of immense importance.  The spatial and temporal activities though being collected through some methods the data that is available is not accurate and also not a valid one. In the field of digital tracking technologies the developments that took place enabled in producing a wide range of systems as land based tracking, satellite navigation and some hybrid systems. Travelblog is a mobile tourist application that utilizes a weblog system. Web based travel blogs describing the pictures, videos are created in post visiting information. The information that is captured via a mobile prototype is sent to a web service automatically. This facilitates the recording and the shared experience at a later time. To track a location scenario the message content is co-presented with geographical maps that indicate the location of the sender and the recipient.

A tourist from abroad who has visited Munich (Hotel München) can download the cities web pages or the terminals with the help of city guide mobile. When one enters his own position, the street, the house number or even the first three letters of his destination, he would receive a set of directions that are in the form of text menu or alternatively they might be in the form of a map indicating the start and the stop locations. These start and stop locations are connected by certain instructions and waypoints. Apart from it the visitor has also the option to select a routing grid of the route that he destined to take. The tourist can open a certain URL from the WAP –services menu and can download and install the program directly from the location itself, Further he can preinstall the program on a memory card and then can later insert it into his device.

Maps of the city are exchanged simply with maps of the fairgrounds or exhibition halls. Individual routing grids are created that have a certain application. The visitors of Munich who have visited it for the first time can use the system to find their way quickly and easily between the different booths or different locations of any trade fair. This city guide mobile or the blue tooth is an inexpensive one and allows small data transfers. When one is navigating and wishes to use only a small amount of data to be functional he can use this. All maps and contents can be transferred in a compressed form over a simpler GPRS- connection. A customized version is made available.  It is an interactive geographical system that helps to publish the maps and data very conveniently.

The maps and data are expanded with a third dimension. This 3D enables in looking at the three dimensional terrain models buildings and daylight lighting effects. The mobile GIS –version offers a selection from different source maps. Further, the full text data base search for objects and addresses can also be provided. It is possible to access maps and data via a blue tooth connection. The blue tooth device is portable and can present up-to-date of the spatial or the non-spatial information of a web map of Munich in a dynamic and a flexible way.
