Classroom Map Products

Today, Map literacy is one of the concerns of American education. It has even been raised in the Miss America Pageant and caused quite a stir. I think that map literacy has lowered the past few years in the states because of the lack of new teaching materials and tools to make geography a fun subject. A simple solution to this problem would be classroom maps. There are many types of products you can buy for your classroom. Beginner Maps, Globes, Map racks and mounts are some examples of the products you can buy.

It is important to note however that classroom maps should be bought in accordance to the needs of the students. This often implies to their age and advancement in the subject of geography. Some classroom maps are not applicable to students in higher or lower levels, so make sure to buy maps that are appropriate for the students.

Due to the problems in geography, classroom map products have sprung up everywhere and now there are many different kinds of classroom maps and objects available in the market today. But it all boils down to 2 basic types of maps: Political Maps and Physical Maps are basically the two types that have tons of variations in the market today. Political maps refer to the territorial (and of course, political) situation of the world today.

Physical maps are your normal, geographical maps that show all the mountains and other geographic places in the world.

These maps however have a lot of variation and this will include things like essential politcal maps, discovery maps and historical maps, these maps paired with a good lesson plan will allow students to learn advanced studies on cartography and political situations in the world. Besides these maps, other tools to consider for classroom use are globes and map racks which are both very useful in oral testing and locating. These tools can be used as very good visual tools for the whole class during discussion time. Overall, I think that classroom maps are a must for every school to enable its students to learn and improve on the subject of geography and learn about different parts of the world.

Just remember before buying these types of materials always make sure to always consider is how it is going to be used and who will use it during class time. This eliminates a lot of time when selecting maps and making mistakes in purchasing maps and related tools you do not need.
